Keen observers will have noticed our new Monthly Marker already, but for those looking for more information: this month we feature Guinevere’s latest single, and their first original song, ‘Fox and Bird’! And to celebrate this we have a special treat for you, so keep reading!

OK, so yesterday’s Monthly Marker announcement was a bit of a joke, obviously. It was the first of April, after all. But we do have a new Monthly Marker for you, replacing The Dolmen‘s ‘Black Is The Colour’. And ‘new’ is the key word this month!
You see, this is the month of Elfia and we wanted you all to have a little something to get in the right mood. And what could be better for that than a nice balfolk dance, a cercle in this case. All through April you can hear Wouter en de Draak‘s (FB) ‘New Horizons, New Adventures’ five to six times a day, so you will have no excuse not to dance when they play this song at Kasteel de Haar during the wonderful weekend that is Elfia!

As you may have noticed we’ve been quite busy bringing you updates and videos from the Fantasy Awards 18/19 (FB) this Friday, which is why we’re a bit late announcing the new Monthly Marker. A very perceptive listener may have noticed that we did actually program it into the the stream from the first of the month!
However, speaking of those Awards, it was awesome to see that our chosen band for this month’s marker, The Dolmen, was very successful this Friday, winning not only in the category ‘Best Live Act International’ but also ‘Best Album’ with ‘Wytches & Cunningfolk’ and it is from this album that we chose the song ‘Black is the Colour’ to highlight throughout March.
Taloch (FB) sings this Scottish traditional in his typical deep and raw voice, giving it a genuine and very emotional quality. The song, sounding very subdued, but in a good way, guides the listener through the feelings of the author (or singer) and transports you to the banks of the Clyde. The addition of the rest of the vocals nearing the end of the song lets you know that this is a feeling shared through time and space with anyone who has ever felt a love like this.
We will play this song throughout the month of March five to six times a day in our stream and if you only love it half as much as we do, we’re certain you’ll enjoy it immensely!

Once again we start a new month with a new Monthly Marker, in what seems to be the coldest part of winter yet, at least here in the Netherlands, and of course in North America. Now, there are two things one can do in this time of year. Either bring warmth into your life by turning up the music and start dancing, which is what we did in January with Aérokorda’s Cliffs of Moher. Then there is the complete opposite option…
For February we would like to look to the cold, which is such an integral part of nature. With this month’s Marker we want to acknowledge, even celebrate the Bitter Wind, which is why we were so very excited when M’ANAM approached us and offered a premiere of a song from their upcoming album. It is based on a 9th century Irish poem with that very same name! The music in this song was written by Michael McGlynn, who we all know from ANÚNA, and it features an impressive solo by Philip Barkhudarov. Special thanks to Saar SeeDling (ANÚNA, SeeD Pagan Folk, Crashing Bats (FB)) for your intermediary role!
So let’s get outside, light a fire, and enjoy these impressive sounds together with friends and family!
