Monthly Marker April 2018: The Chair

The Chair

Sometime we just stumble onto music that instantly captures our hearts. Well, The Chair didn’t stop there: with their energetic party-folk they had our arms waving, feet dancing and spirits way up high! 😀

This band from Orkney, Scotland mixes up traditional melodies from their home town with many modern influences to create a form of acoustic rock. We can’t wait to see them live somewhere soon, like maybe the Tønder Festival 2018 (DK).

Until we do, please enjoy their track ‘Planet Ork‘ five to six times a day this month, as we are happy to have Brian Cromarty, Kenny Ritch, Douglas Montgomery, Erik Laughton, Gavin Firth, Robbie Thomson and Robert Gibbon in our midst this April.

Party on!!

Monthly Marker March 2018: OMNIA

Omnia Morrigan

Yes, it’s the first of the month again, which means it’s time for our new focus track! This time we did things a little different. Instead of us choosing the track, we asked M-Atzin Rurouni, as she was the one that put our Facebook page at the magical number of 5000 likes! And let’s be honest, she chose well 😀

This month’s marker will be OMNIA’s “Morrigan“, taken from their recently re-released 2004 album “Crone of War”. This song in all its 7+ minutes of glory and power will be played five to six times a day, every day, throughout the entire month! Will you come and dance, sing and shout with us?

Monthly Marker February 2018: Kaunan

Kaunan

Thank you Sunfire, for a great meet-up in the CeltCast livingroom, and for providing us with a beautiful and energetic “Yoyo” for a Monthly Marker this past month. But January is now behind us, so it’s time for a new song in the spotlights!

February’s Monthly Marker is an amazing song by Kaunan, in which a beautiful duet is sung by guest singers Maria Franz (FB) (Euzen, Songleikr, Heilung (FB)) and Einar Selvik (FB) (Wardruna). The song is about a couple that have just had a new baby. The mother is working the hay while the father is at the farm, when she calls out to him to ask if the baby is still alive. Spoiler alert, yes, the child lives!

We hope you enjoy this moving song as much as we do, as we play it five to six times a day, every day, throughout the month!

Monthly Marker January 2018: Sunfire

Cover: Sunfire-Sunfire

With the turning of the calendar and the darkest part of the year in retreat we thought it would be a nice time to start sending out some sunshine, or in other words, some Sunfire!

This band released an album called “Sunfire” in 2017 with three bandmembers (Satria (FB), Michel (FB) and Berend (FB)), and has since then expanded to include Sophie (FB), whom we all know and love from Cesair and Shireen. She provides that extra violin twist, completing their awesome energetic sound and stage presence! For our Monthly Marker we chose one of the sunniest songs on the album, Yoyo, which includes guest appearances by both Daphyd Sens (FB) and Rob (FB) of ThunderCrow and OMNIA, of course on didgeridoo and percussion, creating a rhythm line that carries the warmth of the song straight into your soul!

And if you enjoy Sunfire…stay tuned! We’ll have some very, very nice news for you soon!!! 😉

Monthly Marker December 2017: The Dolmen

Cover: The Dolmen-Kayleigh

With the new month comes a new Monthly Marker. Having spent November in the “Quiet Land of Erin” with Gwendolyn Snowdon, this time we “Look to the Sea” with Kayleigh of The Dolmen!

Last weekend, at the Castlefest Winter Edition, The Dolmen treated all of us with not one but two amazing performances. One very powerful set following the Yule ritual that was led by Taloch Tony Jameson, and the next day in a more intimate setting an acoustic set that touched the hearts of all present! This inspired us and made the choice for our new focus-track an easy one. Please enjoy Look to the Sea five to six times a day, every day, for the entire festive month!
