🎶 New Monthly Marker 🎶 – SeeD Pagan Folk: “Het Vergeten Volk” (The Forgotten People)

July is usually THE month leading up to Castlefest, but this year, everything is different, as we all well know. Though we could all cry and lament what is “not”…we feel it is more important to make sure “what was and will be” never gets lost. And that is the feeling behind SeeD Pagan Folk’s latest release: “Het Vergeten Volk” (The Forgotten People). 🧝‍♀️

Though the song is about the creatures and legends of old, the feeling of the song definitely applies to the living legend that is Castlefest and the emotions it, and all festivals like it, conjure up in all of us, addicted as we are to the (almost) spiritual high we experience together! 👣👣👣

So come and join us throughout the entire month as we sing the tales of the forgotten people and those not forgotten but dearly missed. “Sing our tale, go and look for us. We will never be lost.” 🥰

JUNE 🔎*NEW MONTHLY MARKER* – Grumpy O Sheep – Fox Hunter 🦊

Looking for something to dance to, to help brighten the world and lift spirits? Look no further! Our new Monthly Marker is Fox Hunter by Grumpy O Sheep! This song is a beautifully peated and powerful Irish folk tune, spiced up by some amazing southern European influences, which will have you on your feet in no time! 👣

Grumpy O Sheep is a duo originally from the Belfort region. They came together in 2017 and have played a year throughout the East of France before rocking the entire country all through 2019! In the fall of last year, they completed their first album “East of Talisker” from which we have taken this month’s Marker. 🐑

Please enjoy “Fox Hunter” all through June and show the band your love! 🥰

The Power of the Harp

New month, new monthly marker!

Many songs tell us about the magical beauty of harp play and the powers a skilled player can wield under the right circumstances. Previously I was captured myself by Kati Rán’s “Harpa Toner” which upon investigation turned out to be one of many renditions of the same tale that has been traveling throughout Europe, shapeshifting and scope-creeping, evolving in time to well-known versions like Binnorie, The Twa Sisters, The Bonnie Swans and Harp of Death.

Now, once more I am mesmerized by a harp-related song (or should I say ‘sange’? ) and this time as well, I simply had to know what was behind the softly sang lyrics brought across by the tempting voice of none other than Amalie Bruun, a.k.a. Myrkur.

Though mostly known for her Metal albums, Amalie has been diving deeper and deeper into the richness of Scandinavian traditional songs and clearly she came up with some pure Danish gold. As early as January of 2018, some of you may have been lucky enough to witness performances of Myrkur having struck new ground, touring together with other great artists of our scene, like Christopher Juul (Heilung, Euzen) and… you guessed it: Kati Rán. Fortunately her collaboration with Christopher did not end when the tour did. In fact, she stepped into his famous Lava Studios and recently proudly released her latest album Folkesange.

This work of art is a 100% match with our station’s format, which means we will be able to play each individual track and what’s more: we have chosen Harpens Kraft as our new Monthly Marker, meaning we will be playing it 5 to 6 times a day for the month of May!

🤩 New Monthly Marker!

Alasdair Fraser’s Fiddle World – Free Rein 🥰

In these trying times of quarantine and social distancing we could all use a little free rein, to let life take us where it needs to go, so we thought we would give you all some of that throughout the month of April! Alasdair Fraser’s Free Rein, taken from his 1995 album Dawn Dance, uses some very traditional but fresh sounding fiddle tunes to pick you up and get you dancing through your livingroom! 👣

Alasdair Fraser is one of the greatest carriers of the Scottish fiddle music tradition, a fiddler whose warmly expressive playing, mastery of his instrument and deep understanding of his native music as a venerable and continually evolving art is an inspiration to generations of musicians on both sides of the Atlantic. For this song in particular and the album as a whole Alasdair teamed up with a whole host of highly skilled and talented musicians, and that level of experience resonates through the entire song. 🎶

So join us this month, turn up the volume on your stereo, and come dance with us like nobody is watching to the tunes of Free Rein! The song will be played five to six times a day every day, all through April! 😍

Monthly Marker February 2020: Vilsevind

As the first month of the year has finished we are happily moving forward towards our Fantasy Awards 2019/20 (FB) event. One of the ways that we mark the passing of time is through our Monthly Marker, and the first of February means that it’s time to switch again!

This month, staying in Swedish sounds, we chose Tusentals Färdas by Vilsevind – Swedish Folk (FB)! This song, which starts out a capella, reminiscent of last months Häggsjön, quickly evolves to create a very joyful, danceable song, which invites you to take a journey with the band! The song is taken from Vilsenvind’s latest album “dag o natt”, of which every song has been added to our playlists, both the one we broadcast as our radio-stream as well as our Spotify playlist!

Speaking of last months marker, with our switch to the new server we encountered some technical difficulties, which led to a few days of missed Monthly Markers. Since we want to give everyone equal promotion we decided that this wasn’t fair, so we will continue playing Triakel’s Häggsjön throughout February as well, thereby giving this month a bit of a Swedish duet theme 😉

Enjoy both songs, five to six times a day, al through February!
