Hello music lovers! 🎼

The last days of the year 2019 are passing by fast! Especially now that we are working so hard to have the new server up and running in the new year. The majority of our old collection has been reassessed and transferred to the new server. We are processing new music these days immediately upon arrival! We are so happy that we can show you the results quickly! Below are some featured albums that were processed this week. Have fun reading and of course, we are curious about which acoustic folk music you like!

———————————————

Sowulo – Dageraad (2016) Sowulo released a new album this year (review dd 24th Oct, made by Cliff de Booy), but the CD you see in the picture is an older one from 2016. This one contains only one song, namely ‘Dageraad’. This single was intended as a sponsorship campaign for a full album. The album in question was released soon after and was called ‘Sowulo – SOL (2016)’, on which ‘Dageraad’ was, of course, featured once again. Did you know? A couple of band members are also members of ‘Heilung‘! 🍂

OMNIA – World of Omnia (2009) This band regularly comes back in my reports. Omnia has made so many albums! On this one, they name their development: “What we were, what we are and where we are going… welcome to our World”. There are two live songs on it, five older songs as a remake and seven new songs. My personal favourites on this album are: “Old Man Tree”🍁 and “Dil Gaya” (trad. Hindi). The album is beautifully designed again with a booklet with nice photos, the lyrics and the origin of some songs. Very happy with our signed version! 🌳

Jyoti Verhoeff – Phoenix (2012) Jyoti is one of my favourite artists and she made this album together with the talented cello player Maya Fridman. The songs are often focused on nature and that what’s important in life. The album, signed for us 😊, is beautifully made with a booklet with atmospheric photos and lyrics (Sander Van Den Berg, Yana Kovtun and Jyoti herself). I cannot choose a favourite song… Sit down and let yourself be carried away on the beautiful magical sounds. 💚

Rapalje Celtic Folk Music – Rakish Paddies (2003) This is something completely different. Time for an Irish party and a good glass of beer? Then it’s time for Rapalje! The album is a mini-book, the CD itself is in the back. The booklet contains beautiful paintings of the band members. Rakish Paddies’ contains no less than 21 songs since it actually is a collection of three albums into one: Celts in Kilts (1997), Rakish Paddy (1999) and Wack Fol the Daddy-O (2000). 🍺

AmorromA – Op Voyage (2001)Their Facebook page states: “AmorromA, the musical brainchild of Jowan Merckx, is a Belgian folk band that creates its own music based on traditional music from all over Europe”. In the booklet, they tell us that they have made a musical journey with a couple of friends of musicians from too many bands to mention. 😁 The different types of flutes are central on this album. Probably also a favourite album for our Balfolk friends (Mazurka, Bourrée, Scottish)! My favourite is ‘Over de grens’ (translated into English: ‘Across the border’). For me, as I Dutch lady, Belgium is also ‘just’ across the border. 👣

Irfan – Irfan – remaster (2019) This album is a remaster of the album ‘Irfan – Irfan (2003)’. Not a new album, but the old album recorded with much better listening quality. For CeltCast as a folk radio station, this older album is on the border in terms of format, but still we will play a couple of songs of this remastered version. 🕌

Ranarim – Morgonstjarna (2006) Unfortunately, this band no longer exists, because … I love their work! Beautiful folk music from Sweden! All 15 songs will be played on our radio station. Folk music to dance to and to dream away by. Beautiful voices and folk instruments. The album also contains a Christmas song. All the lyrics are in the booklet (in Swedish, of course). 🥰

Prima Nocta – Lost in Time (2017) Of course, the savage men of Prima Nocta also belong on our radio station. 🙂 We can play 11 of the 15 songs, since they fit our format. The album and booklet contain beautiful drawings by Bart van Nieuwerburgh. Listen to the energetic Medieval, Viking and Celtic sounds. When you see them play live, you also see these beautifully savage men in equally beautiful historical clothing. ⚔️

Triakel – Triakel (1998) Last week I already told you about this Swedish folk music. This is another album of this fantastic band! And, I have news for you… soon… we’re going to play songs of their newest album! I’m going to tell you more about that later. 😍

Kallidad – The Awakening (2017) In November I already told you about our meeting with the Australian band Kallidad at Elfia. On this album there are only two songs we can play, but I’m really happy about that. If you need some energy… put this album in the player and I promise you… you can’t sit still! 🎭

Hello music lovers! 🎻💕

It’s already a week ago… the Midwinter Fair Archeon ! It was a fantastic weekend with campfires and beautiful music. Through these kinds of events, the CeltCast team gets energised to do what we do as a team! We want to spread this beautiful music! And, as said before, we hope to start the new year with a completely refreshed radio server! 📻

Today I start with two albums that we collected last weekend at Archeon. 🏰

Pastiche – Pastiche exploring Rebetika (2019)
This band was at Archeon as Lemonaki, their new name. We saw a familiar face too, namely Emma van Dobben formerly of the band AmmA! That was a nice surprise! 😄 Lemonaki is a special folk band with cheerful and melancholic songs from Greece, Spain and the Balkans.☀️

Joint String Friends – Down by the Banks of the Ocean (2019)
In that same weekend, I met Sebastian Meijer. He was playing the violin in the band Plunder during the Midwinter Fair. At Castlefest Winter he was also playing with Varend Volk. It turns out that he has made an album with Joint String Friends (Sicko Hoogterp, Nico de Koning and Menno Schilstra). It’s a nice album with a lot of folk traditionals. If you want to know more, have a look on their website. 🌎

Triakel – Thyra (2014)
I love this album with Swedish folk music! This is what CeltCast is in my opinion, beautiful voice and old instruments. And, our balfolk friends will also love this one. I’ve read on their FB page that they made a new album. We really love to play that one too. 😍

Loreena McKennitt – An Ancient Muse (2006)
I don’t have to tell much about this singer, she’s a great and famous artist. The song ‘The Gates of Istanbul’ reminds me of Irfan. The title of the album perfectly sets the mood of this album. Let yourself be taken on a journey to ancient cultures. 🏛

Merrow – A story to tell (2018)
Regularly, we receive albums that do not completely fit the CeltCast format. If an album does not fit at all, then we will not present it. But sometimes we can play one or two songs. In that case we will definitely play them and happily tell about it! This is also the case with Merrow’s album. It actually tends towards country folk, partly due to the voice of the singer. We will, however, add the track ‘Ashokan farewell’ to our lists. 🎻

CORVUS CORAX – Cantus Buranus II (2008)
This album is totally different from Merrow, but we also can play only one song from this album. This work is more reminiscent of opera and theatre. The artwork is beautiful, making the album a true collector’s item. We are going to add the song “De Mundi Statu” to our playlists. 🕍

THE AssAssENaChS – New Traditions (2015)
We’ve been playing this album for some time now. Last Fantasy Fest Rijswijk we saw them performing again and we made a couple of livestreams. The album contains many folk traditionals. It contains no less than 17 songs, half of which we will play on our new server. 🎸

Wardruna – Runaljod – Gap Var Ginnunga (2009)
Wardruna, Einar Selvik … a big name in our scene! Everything that this special man makes is magical and beautiful. However, for this album you have to sit down, close your eyes and just listen. For that reason, it is difficult for us to dismantle the set of twelve numbers. We are going to play two songs on our stream. I think everyone will understand. Collect the Wardruna/Ivar Bjørnson & Einar Selvik material and let the music enchant you! 🌝

Lúnasa – The Story So Far (2008)
If you want to make me happy … play a Lunasa album! The joy of living radiates from their music. Hop, dance and love life. So, we are going to play every song of this album, as well as the three other albums that we already have processed.

Instinkt – Hur (2002)
We conclude with an older, but fan-tas-tic album! This one gives me positive goosebumps. You probably know Trolska Polska… this is the precursor, because this band no longer exists! This band had a famous band member “Martin Seeberg” – our hero from Denmark. This album cannot be forgotten, it’s one of my favourites. I love the song “Brombaerdance”! Jump, jump …. yeahhh!
On Facebook I found a couple of former band members: Søren Korshøj, Malene Daniels Beck and Martin Seeberg of course. I couldn’t find: Louise R Vangscaard and Vivi Di Bap. I wonder what they are up to these days… 🍀🍃

The time is nigh…

We are entering the last week of voting for the long-lists for the Fantasy Awards 19/20!

The photo album for the category ‘Best Costume’ will be online until next Friday, the 20th of December 19.00h CET.

Give the costumes you like most your love by liking them. The top 5 costumes will then go on to form the short list to compete for the award. For this short list we have both a jury and a people’s voting system. We will aim to select a jury which is both knowledgeable and fair. This means that 50% of the points will be given by a jury and 50% by the number of votes that the costume receives.

Sharing the pictures is of course allowed (we even want you to share all over 🙂 ) but please keep in mind that the likes counted are the ones on the picture in this album, not in the shared posts.

Hello music lovers! 🎼

Due to the Midwinter Fair Archeon (NL) it was a busy week! But, again ten albums went to our new server. Berit CeltCast has already started building new playlists, while I am still busy processing albums. 💿

All albums of this week are beautiful (of course)! 🥰

The albums of VIRELAI, Asynje, FAUN and The Moon and the Nightspirit have beautiful booklets in it! I do love it when work has been clearly put into making them a worthwhile read. 📜

Clannad Irish Band’s album is a special one, since it is from 1979 (!) and therefore from the early period of this band. Our Cliff de Booy Concert Photography posted a nice review on the 26th of June: ✒️

There are two albums that we can play very little of, but are worth mentioning:Barnyard Tea has made a beautiful Christmas album, mostly Bluegrass, but … still one song with a (CeltCast) folk sound! We’re happy we got a hold of it at Keltfest last May.🎄

And of course, the Mark Knopfler album (1987) from the “The Princes Bride”. Who hasn’t seen that iconic movie? Inconceivable that you haven’t! We’re going to play two songs of that beauty. 🎥

Finally, an earlier album of PerKelt from 2016 which was handed to us back in the summer of that year on the Castlefest grounds. PerKelt, whom by the way released a new album recently! 🎻

And lastly, an older album of Annwn (2007) that was recommended to us by Miroque – lebendige Geschichte at Fantasy Fest Rijswijk, when it was still called the Gothic and Fantasy Beurs. We’re very glad Lena tipped us this artist, because we will play 100% of it mixed into our playlists. 🎶

Worldes Bliss shall be released on YouTube, where you can already find music videos of Stella Splendens and Oh Madame . Worldes Bliss is after a 13th century song about how the bliss of life doesn’t last. It has a beautiful chant-like melody by two voices who are driving each other forward.
