Monthly Marker September 2021: Book of Tunes

Cover Book of Tunes

In January, we received an email at CeltCast HQ from Volker Armbruster, the man behind Book of Tunes. He told us about the album he released in October 2020, which features Irish and Celtic Folk music with film music elements. After some conversation, a physical copy of the album ‘New Found Trails’ was delivered andโ€ฆ. I instantly loved it! The tracks are all instrumental, and you can feel the ‘movies’ behind the tracks. Get ready to let yourself be enchanted by these special folk-inspired songs.

In the meantime, Volker released three other amazing singles and two Yule-tide songs. These are all magical as well! If you are not yet familiar with his work, we highly recommend that you have a listen to his songs after reading this! For the whole month of September, we are going to play the single ‘Ratatoskr’ five to six times a day on CeltCast Radio.

It is a soundtrack song just waiting for a movie to be shot for it!

More about the single ‘Ratatoskr’ on Bandcamp:

A story about the greedy squirrel Ratatoskr living in the world-tree of Yggdrasil in Norse mythology. It always searches for bigger and better fruits, bringing itself and its friend Eikpyrnir in danger.

I’m longing for the next album, and I’m sure you’ll share my opinion once you hear Volker play.

Book of Tunes – New Found Trails (2020)

2020 Book of Tunes CD 1 In January, we received an email at CeltCast HQ from Volker Armbruster, the man behind Book of Tunes. He told us about the album he released in October 2020, which features Irish and Celtic Folk music with film music elements. After some conversation, a physical copy of the album ‘New Found Trails’ was delivered and… I instantly loved it! The tracks are all instrumental, and you can feel the ‘movies’ behind the tracks. Get ready to let yourself be enchanted by these special folk-inspired songs.

His website states >> Book of Tunes is a “one-man-band project” by Volker Armbruster. The eight-track album was created within a year. “New Found Trails” is not a traditional Irish folk album, but has been heavily inspired and influenced by Irish music. All songs were composed, recorded and produced in our own studio, the “noise factory” in Ludwigsburg. <<

I’m longing for the next album, and I’m sure you’ll share my opinion once you hear Volker play.

Musical greetings,

Okay, this is an older live album but definitely one that should be on your shelf! Solas is an Irish/American Folk band which has been playing since 1996. This band doesnโ€™t need our help promoting it, but... we wanted to share their music with you, our listeners. ๐ŸŽถ

The reunion album consists of a CD and a DVD. ๐Ÿ’ฟ๐Ÿ“€ They made it for their 10th anniversary. It was recorded during a concert in Philadelphia. What was so very special about this session, was that it featured performances of all band members, of both the current line-up and previous ones! You can feel that magic listening to the CD or watching the DVD. Itโ€™s amazing... ๐Ÿ˜

This album is so beautiful, it gives me tears and goosebumps because of that. My favourite songs are Crested Hens, Black Annis (I love that wavy violin) and Fleur de Lis. โšœ๏ธ

Sowulo is in need of a Viola!

Within the north Ever wanted to join a Nordic Pagan folk band? Well here may be your chance! Sowulo is looking for an additional musician!

Are you a viola player or do you know somebody who is, please let them know!
The perfect match would be somebody who is used to play in a group like an orchestra or even better a string assemble. Somebody who has a classical background but feels lured by the music of Sowulo .
The only requirement is that you live in the Netherlands and willing to rehearse (and possibly record) in the city of Arnhem.

The Daily Disc – Ren Vas Terul – EP (2019)

This guy named Ren from Poland is a very diverse artist! On his YouTube channel, you’ll see that immediately. There are music videos, but also videos about building instruments, “how to play”-tutorials, fireshows, handcraft, etcetera. It’s worth to visit and follow his page!

We are playing three songs of Ren on our radiostation. It’s difficult to put his songs in a category… I don’t even think I can. You’ll hear elements of Pagan Folk, Nordic folk, sounds of the Middle East and other types of Folk music.

My favourite song is “Szczur” because it’s a surprising song, almost a little movie! It’s about an ancient rat… You can find the lyrics below the video on YT, Ren – Szczur:

We’re curious what Ren is going to bring us in the near future!
